Val D'Orcia, the area where you find our agriturismo
Castiglione d'Orcia, San Quirico d'Orcia, Pienza, Montalcino, Montepulciano, Cortona, Monticchiello, Radicofani, thermal sites like Bagno Vignoni and Bagni San Filippo.
… fascinating places and villages, castles, fortresses, famous abbeys like San Antimo and Monte Oliveto, farmhouses, art gardens (don't forget the Daniel Spoerri garden at the road to Seggiano). Art, culture and history in this slow harmonious rhythm of life.
It is recommended to walk or to go for a ride along the enchanting country roads, rich in spots of unique beauty. We also suggest a visit to the village of Chiusure, close to the Monte Oliveto Abbey, Lucignano d'Asso, Montisi and Montefollonico, mediaeval hamlets, charming villages with panoramic views and typical bars and "trattorie".
Thermal sites (4 Km)
At Bagni San Filippo (3,5 km.) beyond the Spa-institutes, salutary for the skin and those suffering from rheumatic pains, you can take a bathe in the hot sulphated water at the 'fosso bianco', in the open air in the forest just before reaching the Spa-institute with swimming pools.
You could also immerse in the thermal water at Bagno Vignoni (13 km.), known from the times of the Etruscans and Romans. In this borgo you still find the ancient town-planning: the thermal bath in the centre square, closed around by three walls and at a quarter side is a partition-wall in front of the arcade of Santa Catherina.
Amiata (13 Km)
Also the area of the Mount Amiata is in the neighbourhood of our agriturismo. A sleeping volcano, altitude 1734 metres, ski centre in winter times. Very rich in vegetation and forests with interesting historical cities and villages. Not to miss is the antique abbey in Abbadia San Salvatore, but also Piancastagnaio, Santa Fiora, Arcidosso, Castel del Piano are impressive places. In this area you still find some atmosphere of the former exploration of the mercury mine at the Amiata.
Lago di Bolsena (50 Km)
You reach the Bolsena Lake in less than one hour. A volcanic lake: beaches, clear water and the surrounding countryside. On the shore you will find many "trattorie" where you can taste the "coregone", a tasty freshwater fish, accompanied with a good farmer's wine from this area you create the right atmosphere... just as the German bishop Johannes Defuk, on his way to Rome on behalf of the coronation-ceremony of Henry V, here found this wine Est Est Est..!! As the tragic story tells, he never left this place again. Not far away from here is Orvieto.
Etruscan sites (Sovana, Sorano, Pitigliano) (45 Km)
Driving towards the sea you will find the Etruscan sites of Sovana-Sorano-Pitigliano, definitely worth a visit. Better not to miss the majestic tombs at Sovana, made in the characteristic tufaceous rocks in this area, where you also find the sunken roads, vie cave.
Siena (60 Km)
Siena is a wonderful town, famous all around the world. You will need a tourist guidebook. There is so much to see and to know! From Siena you can easily reach San Gimignano, the castle of Monteriggioni, Volterra, or you can go into the Chianti region where the irresistible city of Florence appears.
The seaside (90 Km)
In about one hour and a half from our agriturismo you reach the sea, the Uccellina National Park with its "Nature beach" at Alberese. This is a fascinating place for those who love the sea and unpolluted environments.
